Supporting Economic Development that Strengthens Neighborhoods

Blighted Sites are Economic Opportunities

A healthy, vibrant and successful community needs a mix of businesses that both employ local residents and provide local residents with the goods and services they need. Watertown has an impressive commercial tax base as well as strong commercial centers. But Watertown also has underutilized and low-valued properties that detract from our neighborhoods. The Town of Watertown recently completed a study of Economic Development Opportunities. Metro West Collaborative Development (MWCD) supports the plan and looks forward to helping facilitate its implementation.

A cornerstone of the Economic Development plan is the identification of five revitalization focus areas. MWCD seeks to involve the residents of these neighborhoods in organizing and planning activities that insure that each neighborhood benefits from economic development strategies targeted for their neighborhoods.

The “focus” neighborhoods include:

  1. West End Riverfront (Pleasant Street)
  2. South Square (Galen Street)
  3. Union Market (Irving/Arsenal/No. Beacon Streets)
  4. Arsenal North
  5. Coolidge Hill

MWCD is currently meeting with residents in these focus neighborhoods to gather their input on the types of re-development strategies they would like to see be implemented. If you live in one of these neighborhoods, give us a call!
